NEW DELHI: Forecasting a gloomy future for the country's education scenario, a study has shown that enrolment has dropped in half the states. About 16 states, including Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Kerala, registered a drop in enrolment even as states like Punjab, Sikkim and Tamil Nadu improved their performance.
The study — conducted by the National University of Educational Planning and Administration ( NUEPA) — has found that there has been an overall improvement in enrolment at the elementary level in the country during 2010-11. However, access remains denied to marginalized communities, including girls, Muslims and OBCs.
